About Dr Tyes

Jonathan C. Tyes, MD, is a physician, educator, mentor, and advocate whose work is rooted in a simple belief: talent is everywhere, but opportunity is not.

A first-generation college graduate and the eldest of ten siblings, Jonathan’s path has been shaped as much by the people and communities that raised him as by the institutions where he has studied. An alumnus of Morehouse College and the University of Louisville School of Medicine, he is currently completing his residency training in Anesthesiology while pursuing a Master of Public Health degree at  Harvard.

But Jonathan’s story extends far beyond medicine.

For years, he has worked to create opportunities for young people who may not otherwise see themselves represented in medicine, higher education, or positions of leadership. He is the founder of Mini Med School, an immersive program that introduces students to medicine and healthcare through hands-on experiences, mentorship, and career exposure. He also co-founded the Black Male EDquity Network (BMEN) through which he co-authored a U.S. copyrighted curriculum, and created educational, career-readiness, mentorship, and youth-development programming reaching hundreds of students across schools and community organizations.

Whether he is helping a middle school student hold a stethoscope for the first time, mentoring a college student navigating the unwritten rules of higher education, speaking to an audience about resilience and leadership, or caring for patients in the hospital, the mission remains the same: use what you have learned to make life better for someone else.

Jonathan’s work sits at the intersection of medicine, education, public health, mentorship, and academic empowerment. His experiences have also shaped his work as an emerging author, where he explores the lessons, failures, relationships, sacrifices, and moments of wisdom that have influenced his journey.
